This one should be one of he more one-sided encounters in the Round of 16 but the performances of both have narrowed the perceived gap. England have significantly underperformed in terms of their level but five points was enough to see them top Group C and enter into the so-called ‘easier’ side of the knockout stage draw. Slovakia, on the other hand, squeezed through Group E in third after a defeat of Belgium, loss to Ukraine and then draw with Romania. They have played some entertaining football but that football does mean they are conceding a lot of shots against them and that may play into England’s hands. Backing a heavy England win in knockout football is never a great idea, despite recent comfortable wins at previous tournaments, but this should be an England win.
